A Conversation with Cookie Jane the Hound

Cookie Jane and I have many conversations. We go to book club together. I read her poetry. She is the master of the nap. Cookie says it’s the art of surrender. We are taught to grasp and cling to what we want be it love or material possessions. These days, CJ and I are holding more loosely. We are loving just as well but we are not desperately seeking validation.

We are on a three month vacation from screens in efforts to embrace analog ease and notice when grace pays us a visit.

Today, CJ asked me why humans struggle with stillness. Cookie can sit in the green, put her snout to the sky, and soak in the sun. She has been one of my greatest teachers in earth school. I tell CJ she is very bright and that humans are often afraid of their own hearts and minds. Why,, she asks. Well, I say, it seems we tend to overthink our blessings.

See, we come to earth school with all these gifts and we have the task of remembering who we are and what our gifts are. Let’s take intimacy.

Cookie Jane loves to sleep in the crook of my elbow. Her soft, furry snout tickles my skin. She has no hesitancy about loving touch. She just loves well.

Sometimes humans overthink love. They expect it to look a certain way and when it doesn’t they panic and jump out of the boat.

CJ says, it’s all so easy. Just hold each other close and be tender. Let your heart expand and your body be soft.

I tell CJ, thank you, and kiss her snout. Wherever you find yourself this week, consider CJ’s teachings and earth school lessons. We love you very much. For homework, fill your own cup.

Cookie Jane is wise indeed. I agree with Jolene, we could all use more sage advice from the one who loves unconditionally ♥️
