The Lion’s Roar
The Lion’s Roar
Walking the tightrope
Her inner voice
The lion’s roar
The state wants to own her body
Keep it in chains
Hold her down
Clip her wings from flight
She covers her face with her soft hands
Her belly rumbles
The day before she was assaulted on the subway
A man did not expect her to fight
To use her voice to deter his rage
She shook all night with fever dreams
Until she found herself at an oasis in the desert
Heavy with promise
Her heartbeat steady now
Open
Her aqua eyes clear with the certainty of the sun, moon, and tides
Look towards home
The sacred rhythm of blood
And dna
Woven in songs of her ancestors
She weeps waiting for grace
Bullets tear through the night sky
Her bare feet carry her to a waterfall
Naked with wild from years of silence
She chooses her holy circle of beloveds
All unique souls celebrating
Only as women can
Sacred sisters
