The Space Between
There’s a space in between the synapses of the brain,
electric impulses slide, jump,
cerebral space travel happens,
The fatty, myelin increases the rate of connections,
Sometimes in the in between,
the spirit intervenes,
the soul speaks soliloquies of
epic stories,
adventures yet experienced
On this earthly plane,
images like inky stamps of consciousness
paint landscapes of waterfalls,
an oasis in the desert,
Joshua trees so ancient,
fossils pay homage to their
succulent skin,
There’s a place in between
where African queens
dance, weave movement into
Parables of fate,
where deities dare tread,
on shallow streams of silent waters,
There’s a space in between
memories that our elders
Shape into rivers of forgotten forests,
Sequoias know the secrets but
do not speak,
There’s a space in between
generations where Aretha Franklin and Mozart meet,
where melody meets destiny
In a certain, fallible place in time,
where all ages gather
in tribal circles,
where life is not linear,
but exists as full spheres
of space, time,
stardust, and water,
There’s a space in between
where we all are born, breathe air,
swim mightily against the current,
and create stories of survival,
Meet me at the space in between,
where ancestors welcome us all.
